Thank you

The journey I took with you in this subject enriched me as it enriched you. If you learned a lot, I also did.

I'm kind of sad for not being able to teach this semester, but I am welcoming the opportunity to be focusing on other things of equal importance as teaching. You guys and the the program will forever be part of me and I don't think I could stay away for long (hopefully).

Remain true and committed to the profession. Teach to others whatever good you learned in any of the subjects. Make a conscious effort everyday to make yourself better, this will result to the program being better too.

May the good and positive force be with you every moment. I will look forward to being with you again in one class or two.

Reminders

Some friendly reminders (if you want to pass this subject):

I only received very few materials that are good for presentation already. What about the others?

I would appreciate getting a feedback of how the planning for the community-based training is going. Remember you will have to conduct the training next week and I still didn't receive any update.

Session on September 15

I don't think we will be able to conduct the facilitation exercise tomorrow considering the fact that only a few submitted their proposals and none submitted their presentation materials for my perusal.

In this case, tomorrow will be a coaching session of how the facilitation exercise will be conducted and planning for the community-based seminar/training.

I will appreciate if you could bring your presentation materials tomorrow so I can look at them.

Reminder

Please be reminded that today is the deadline of the submission of your take home work. I expect all your proposals and activity/training designs to be in my mail inbox by 7:00 PM. Anything submitted after that will not get any grade at all.

Request for make up class

Hello All,

I am currently in Manila and will be back in Cagayan de Oro by tomorrow afternoon. I doubt if I can catch up with the class at 4 PM.

Can I request for a make up class anytime within Friday to Monday? We need another session for the training processes.

I will appreciate a feedback of a favorable schedule.

Thanks. . . .

Story of the Next King

Hello All,

Congratulations to everyone for the awesome acquaintance party. It was a blast!

Dr. Chavez in her message related a story about how a king chose his successor (I hope you listened to that!). Its a beautiful story of human character put to the test. Something, we, social workers and students of human resource can reflect upon.

In this note, please share here your thoughts of the story focusing on the usual human reaction when put to the test. Upload it here via the comment box.

If you have not listened to the story, research then.

You might just get extra points for a good thought or sharing of your thoughts about the story.

Looking forward to reading your reflections.

Have a great day!!!!

Prelim Exams and July 28 class

I started checking your prelim exams and so far so good. I wonder where the exams of Joereline Tupag and Sheila Jamero are?

For this Thursday's discussion, please read up about organizational development and think of how we can apply this to the social work profession.

Cheerio!

Please book us an LCD projector I have a few slides to show to the class.

See you tomorrow.

P.S. Thank you Lilibeth and Kaze (is this you Emie Flor) or your comments.

July 07 Activity

Hello All,

I am not sure if the instruction of the July 07 activity was clear to you guys. When I looked at your outputs, I only have five (5) people who were able to get it right.

I didn't get any email of inquiry or a text message so I assumed you got it but obviously this was not true to all.

I would truly appreciate any feedback if you did not get the instruction.

I will see you all tomorrow from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. I have arranged a swap with Ms. Martinez' class and that of ours. Which means that Ma'am Del will be meeting you on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

July 07 Activity

Hello Guys,

I would like to congratulate everyone for last week's activity. You did well but there is still so much room for improvement.

I also appreciated the fact that some of the members of the class whom I seldom hear, did speak and shared their ideas.

I would appreciate a feedback of the final class schedule and the room assignment. Should we be holding class from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM?

For tomorrow, Thursday, July 07, you will be doing a library activity. You will research about HRD concepts, principles and practices that are similar to those that we follow, practice, or believe in social work.

I would like an explanation of how the HRD concepts, practices or principles are similar to those in social work.

Each of you should research at least five (5) concepts, practices or principles. At the end of the period. I will be collecting your written output.

I have a panel interview on that day and may be able to be there by around 7:00 PM.

If you have any questions relative to this assignment, please post a comment here or email me at winnieamores@gmail.com.

Cheers...

June 30 Activity

Tomorrow, June 30, 2011 will be the first discussion day of the class.

Please be reminded to read about the following terms:

1. Human
2. Resource
3. Development
4. Human resource
5. Human development
6. Resource Development
7. Human Development

As I said during the last meeting, when reading a book please try to see the perspective of why it was written. You can find it in the introduction or preface or any other thing it is called but usually the first few pages of the book.

Also consider in the the formulation of your definitions or concepts, that you are a student of social work and how we will be able to connect these terms with the Social Work Profession.

I am going to try to upload links of urls from the web that you can also read.

Ciao!!!!

Welcome All

Hello Students,

Welcome to another school year and to the first semester.

The opening of the new school year and the new semester poses a host of opportunities to learn and be better as a student and in your preparation of being a social worker.

Our course of Human Resource Development in Social Work is one of the new offerings of the program. In fact, you will be the second group to take the course.

The objective of the course is to assist you in learning how to maximize the biggest resource that we deal with - human resource. After this course you will hopefully see all persons you encounter, whatever their conditions are, as a resource especially the clients.

We have had debates about calling the people we work with as clients because this is a bit derogatory or somehow labeling. The things you will learn in this course will hopefully give you a new perspective of the people that we help. This will flesh out our belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

I have set up this blog as a venue for learning or platform where we can exchange knowledge, information, reading materials, and anything else that will help us learn together. This will also help you harness your skill as far as keeping abreast with technology is concerned.

I will upload here discussion materials, assignments, cases for review, activity guides, and others relative to our course, so do check regularly (as often perhaps as you log in to your facebook accounts, hopefully).

Let us enjoy learning together. I feel very blessed and very excited about journeying with you in this course.

Cheers!!!!
